The Dynamite Academy (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a martial arts gym based at Union Mill, Waterfoot, BB4 7JJ. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use and look after your personal data when you use our website (team-dynamite.co.uk), contact us, or enquire about or book a class with us, in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
1. Who we are

We are the “data controller” for the personal data described in this policy. If you have any questions about it, contact us using the details above.
2. The data we collect
Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:
- Contact details: your name, email address and phone number.
- Enquiry and booking details: what you tell us through our contact and free trial forms, such as the class you are interested in, your experience level and your message.
- Details about children: if you enquire about or book a class for a child, we ask for the parent or guardian to give us the information. We only collect what we need, such as the child’s first name and age.
- Health and injury information: if you choose to tell us about an injury or medical condition so our coaches can train you safely. This is sensitive information, and we only use it to keep you safe in training.
- Photos and video: we may take photos or video during classes to promote the gym. We will ask for your permission first (or a parent’s or guardian’s permission for children), and you can ask us to remove them at any time.
- Technical data: your IP address, browser type and how you use our website, collected through cookies and similar technologies (see our Cookie Policy).
3. How and why we use your data
We only use your personal data when the law allows us to. We use it to:
- reply to your enquiries and arrange free trials and classes (to take steps you ask us to before a contract, or to carry one out);
- keep you and others safe in classes (our legitimate interest, and for health information, your explicit consent);
- keep basic records of members and attendance (our legitimate interest in running the gym);
- promote the gym with photos, video and social media posts (with your consent);
- keep our website secure and understand how it is used so we can improve it (our legitimate interest).
We do not sell your data, and we only send marketing messages to people who have asked to hear from us. You can opt out at any time.
4. Who we share your data with
We only share data with providers who help us run the website and the gym, and only as far as is needed:
- our website hosting and email providers, who store the website and deliver form messages to us;
- automation and email tools we use to route your form enquiries to our coaches so we can reply quickly;
- analytics providers (such as Google Analytics), if analytics is switched on, to measure website traffic;
- Google Maps, which is embedded on our website to show where we are;
- social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, if you contact or follow us there, or where we post photos with permission;
- professional advisers, insurers or authorities, where we are required to by law or to protect our legal rights.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on safeguards the law recognises, such as approved contractual terms.
5. How long we keep your data
We keep enquiry records for up to 2 years, so we can follow up and answer questions about your enquiry. We keep member and attendance records while you train with us and for a reasonable period afterwards (up to 6 years where needed for insurance or legal reasons). Health information you give us is kept only as long as it is relevant to your training. After that we delete or anonymise it.
6. Keeping your data secure
We take sensible technical and organisational steps to protect your data from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No website or online system is completely secure, so please do not send us sensitive information by email or form unless it is needed.
7. Cookies
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. You can read more, and find out how to control them, in our Cookie Policy.
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your data in some circumstances;
- object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use your data;
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it (for example for photos and video);
- ask for your data in a portable format in some circumstances.
To use any of these rights, email us at info@team-dynamite.co.uk. We aim to reply within one month.
9. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
